Visions of Disfigurement – Aeons of Misery (Slam/Brutal Death Metal)

Let me get started with saying I was not a big fan of of Visions of Disfigurement going into this review. I personally didn’t enjoy my time with Abhorrent Extinction and it wasn’t until I heard a single from Aeons of Misery I thought “what is this the same band? They sound a lot better now!”. I’m sure the fans of the band who liked their first material might think the other way around but their change into a much, much better mix between brutal and slam (leaning more towards brutal death in this case) with great production and overall just better performances by all the members spoke to me more than before.

End result is an absolute killer of an album. Visions of Disfigurement will slay you with Aeons of Misery. One of the heaviest, most compact albums I’ve heard in a long time and this is definitely the road the band should walk and hone their craft. From start to finish the album just keeps on bashing your skull with sick vocals and heavy riffs. There is no denying fans of the extreme will get their fill here and extra gains for the gym sessions. Was actually a really long time since I gave an album within the brutal/slam school higher than a 4 in score but Aeons of Misery deserves it. They don’t reinvent the wheel or do anything ground breaking for the genre, but they do reinvent themselves and it knocked me out cold. It’s just filthy, sick heavy music done to crater the fans of this style, nothing more, nothing less. Also has to be said the cover art is wonderful, that Balrog kind of looking demon fighting a Lovecraft like creature is a most fitting cover that adds the cherry on the top (great work by Pedro Sena). This will be a hard album to beat in its genre this year so don’t miss out on it!

Analepsy – Atrocities from Beyond (Brutal Death Metal)

Portugals very own Analepsy have been on many brutal death metal fans minds since their debut EP Dehumanization by Supremacy came out in 2015 like a hurricane and destroyed any competition in its path. Follow up the EP Analepsy has finally given us their first full-length Atrocities from Beyond. Continuing their path to extinction Analepsy are more than ready to devourer their competitors in the brutal death metal slam scene. I have to say this is one of the best debut full-length albums I’ve heard within the genre. Even with the change of a vocalist from Ricardo Proenca to Diogo Santana getting both guitar and vocal duty they still keep it brutal and it’s like nothing has changed in the band.

Analepsy are producing some of their best tracks on this album. Rifts to Abhorrence, Witness of Extinction and Atrocity Deeds are instant brutal death metal classics that will put Analepsy on the map for even more metalheads out there. Analepsy deserves all the praise they get and they are here to stay folks. The share brutality, shredding and gnarly vocals mixed in a blender is a sweet symphony of destruction. Atrocities from Beyond is a perfect debut album in many ways and Analepsy has really paved their way to the top now.

Atrocities from Beyond is out now by Rising Nemesis Records (who by the way keep releasing great stuff).

Human Vivisection – The Perpetual Gap (Brutal Death Metal)

I can’t say I’ve heard of any brutal death metal bands from Belgium before so I was stoked to see what Human Vivisection got to offer from, get this, the city of Bree (such a perfect name for a brutal band it’s insane). The road for the band has been a hard one because since the band was founded in 2012 by Roy Feyen Human Vivisection had trouble keeping a lineup so the band was quite fast put on ice. The in 2015 something happened, one after another Human Vivisection got new members joining who felt the same love for brutal death metal as Roy. At the end of 2015 The Perpetual Gap was recorded and mixed by the band itself, to eventually be released through Rising Nemesis Records (a label everyone should keep a close eye on) in May 2016.

The record is has a good mix of slam, brutality and plain groovy metal. Putting on The Perpetual Gap is a great way to get some headbanging action the more brutal way than regular death metal. You can not sit still to this one as you will soon start to drum and headbang yourself that’s for sure. I am glad to say that Belgium can produce brutal death metal with high quality and I hope to see more bands incoming, this is hopefully just the begining. I am also happy every time I hear a band on the brink of dying out rising up and produce something that’s really great. Because that’s exactly what this is, a great album that every brutal death metal fan should listen to.

Infectology – Innards of Misanthropic Embodiment (Brutal Death Metal)

Coming from Ecuador, a country I honestly didn’t know produced brutal death metal, we have Infectology. A band I hadn’t heard of until yesterday when I read No Clean Singing’s top 40 brutal death metal albums and I got interested in checking what these crazy dudes have done. And let me tell you it’s all about the gore and torture with these guys!

This is fast and brutal as it is technical. A complete devastating attack of riffs and grovy rythm hits you straight on and you can’t defend yourself. Only thing that sticks out in a bad way is the drums. It sounds like they aren’t playing on a real drumset? Might just be the production quality being crap but sadly it sticks out like a sore thumb.

Had it not been for the drums this would be a killer brutal death metal release. Right now though I say give it a spin if you’re a brutal death metal fan who just can’t get enough of it. If you only want the very top-tier within the genre though this is not for you (unless you can stand the drums, as the rest is sick). I do however look forward to hear what they come out with next, as there is loads of potential just waiting to be unleashed.

Internal Devour – Doomed to Disembowelment (Brutal Death Metal)

a0075429699_10

The debut full-length release of Internal Devour his like a sledgehammer last year and the bands idea on bringing slam to the masses might just work. Australia are great at producing brutal death metal acts and Internal Devour are no different. The slam is definitely there and the beatdowns are as hard as ever. With tracks like Gagging On Aborted Mush and Pounded Slut you can be sure that Doomed to Disembowelment brings the gore theme to the extreme Cannibal Corpse style. The track Chopped Up and Smoked even features some of the greatest slam acts in Whoretopsy, Ingested, Acra and Cerebral Incubation. Great to make your neighbours wonder what kind of sick fuck you are!

If you liked the bands EP Aborted and Slaughtered then you will feel right at home here. A great full-length debut to follow-up with which brings more of the carnage, more brutality and more slamming gore to the people. Got the feel for some brutal slam? Then look no further!

Swine Overlord – Entheogenesis (Progressive Brutal Death Metal)

What’s this, progressive brutal death metal? Does that even exist? Apparently it does and it’s the American duo Will Peplinski and Anthony Viscusi who’s made something rather unique and named it, as awesome as it is, Swine Overlord. Entheogenesis is the bands second full-length actually as the band released Parables of Umbral Transcendence in 2014. Since then the band has taken the song-writing even further and Entheogenesis is a concept album “which offers a unique look at the development of the human psyche through the lens of western religion and eastern spirituality” as stated on their store. The album cover is stunning and is created by Chinese artist Yang Guang (Equilibrium, Putridity, Inanimate Existence) who’s made one of his best works as of yet.

I was unsure what to expect from this album as I’d never heard of this cross-over of genres before. After listening to Entheogenesis though I just want more of this. Think Beyond Creation molded with Black Crown Initiate on speed and you’re halfway there. This is great. The song-writing and religious horror-story filled with gore is crazy epic and Swine Overlord are great at changing the tempo throughout the whole album. The instrumental intermissions, as you can call it, in the album works great to add extra prog to the party (I: The Creator and Riverchrist for example). Meld it all together and you have yourself an album that stands out and is beautiful yet sick and brutal. Now excuse me while I dig into all of Swine Overlord’s discography while I keep on telling you how great they are.

Decomposition of Entrails – Pestilential Synthesis (Brutal Death Metal)

a1998307725_10

Russian goremasters Decomposition of Entrails are back with their slamming brutal death metal and they are just as sick as ever! The original duo Rustam Minuraziev and Kirill Nazarov are this times joined with guitarist Dmitriy Ustinov and I dare to say this is better than their debut album Perverted Torments. A fun fact is that the band turns four years old in just four days, so I almost clocked their birthday when finding out they had made a new release in 2016 at the right time. Oh and if you wonder how these bastards got so freaking brutal it’s due to the band formed in 2013 in the depths of the harsh Ural Mountains. Obviously you would get a bit twisted, sick and vile getting a joy out of gore as a result of it.

I missed a lot of good brutal death metal last year, Decomposition of Entrails sophomore Pestilential Synthesis being one of those. This was definitely one of the better BDM releases last year that you shouldn’t miss. There will be a lot of brutal death metal reviews coming these next days and I advice you to check all those demented and twisted bands out, starting with Decomposition of Entrails!
