Swedish death metal worship from California! That’s how the American band Fatalist describes their music and I can’t do anything else than completely agree with them. The Bitter End sounds a lot like the good old 90’s Swedish death metal scene, where bands such as Entombed, Dismember, Carnage, Evocation, Grave etc comes to mind. As you all know by now this is a good thing! One can simply not have too much death metal! Funny thing is the band was originally thought to be a Swedish death metal cover band called Stockholm Syndrome. Even though that never happened the idea was already planted to create old school Swedish death metal.
That being said there is good and there is bad death metal, so in which category does Fatalist fall into? Answer is the good one! The dark and gritty guitar plays, with blasting solos are exactly as I remember Entombed or Dismember in their prime. Mid-tempo melodic groove just waiting for a metalhead to go nuts on in the mosh pit. Whereas this is nothing new to the metal crowd this is well produced and a great homage to the old school Swedish death metal scene.
When listening to Fatalist – The Bitter End you get 44 minutes on 11 tracks 90’s death metal the Swedish way. Anyone wanting to reminiscence that era will be happy with this purchase, as it’s a sure buy for any fans of 90’s death metal. However if you’re wanting something new you haven’t heard before then this is not the album for you. The Bitter End is out now from German label F.D.A. Rekotz.
