Oracles – Miserycorde (Melodic Death Metal)

Oracles was originally formed as System Divide by the couple Sven de Caluwé (of Aborted) and Miri Milman (of Distorted), but now reformed as Oracles after a messy divorce between the two. I am thankful Sven did reform the band while adding Ken Bedene and Mendel Bij de Leij from his main band Aborted. The album Miserycorde is a good mix of Lacuna Coil and Killswitch Engage sound while sometimes going into the more extreme parts and almost, just almost, sounds like Aborted. S(k)in for example has not just one, but two very good solos and the drumming plus vocals is just kickass on that track. The cover of Marilyn Manson’s The Beautiful People is a cool take on the song eventhough I think the original song is hard to beat.

All in all this is a solid album and definitely worth a listen from any fans of the genre, just don’t expect this to be as extreme as Aborted as with that mindset you will be disappointed. See it as a mish-mash of different metal styles that mixes male and female vocals in a great way that not many bands can pull off.

For fans of: Killswitch Engage and Lacuna Coil
